McDonald’s is opening up its delivery relationship, announcing via a press release that it signed a contract to make DoorDash its second third-party delivery provider, effectively ending its exclusive deal with Uber Eats that was viewed by many industry watchers as a sign of the times. The world’s largest restaurant brand by revenue will still deliver via Uber Eats, but it’s no longer pretending they’re married.
According to Team Ronald, the first DoorDash deliveries will begin with more than 200 restaurants in the Houston market on July 29.
“In a few short years, [delivery], has become an important part of our growth and our customer-centric strategy,” said Chris Kempczinski, president of McDonald’s USA. “Building on the success of [delivery] in the US, we’re excited to make [it] accessible to customers on DoorDash, which is available in all 50 states and reaches 80% of Americans.”
McDonald’s will also be a part of DoorDash’s DashPass subscription program that offers members unlimited free deliveries on orders of $12 or more with select merchants. The company added that it’s “one of the fastest growing subscription services in the industry, approaching 1 million members.”
McDonald’s and DoorDash have integrated their systems so that DoorDash orders are sent directly to the McDonald’s point-of-sale system. The company calls its delivery program McDelivery, and noted that delivery sales have eclipsed the $3 billion mark, at more than 9,000 company- and franchisee-owned locations.
